The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

We had such a nice time! Liz is an awesome person, she’s friendly , a great personality! She made our visit very welcoming. Can I request her as my waitress going forward for the next time we are in the Walnut Room for December 2025 reservations? Great job! She deserves a high five and a RAISE!! April

Food tasted like it was prepared hours earlier and kept warm. Atmosphere and grand tree were exciting to behold. Loved it!

My friend and I had the absolute 💯 best time at brunch. We were seated near the magnificent Christmas tree and were visited by one of the fairies 🧚‍♂️ whom we each made a wish with. Our meal was savory and delicious. We enjoyed the pot pie, salad , and abundant charcuterie board selection. But, above everything else, it was the exceptional service provided by Lex, and the reason I'm taking the time to write this review. He was friendly, attentive, and very professional. We wanted for nothing because Lex was observant and took action before we asked. Thank you, Lex, for making our day.

Thank you for the notification of a recent cancellation. We did not expect to get one this year as everything was completely booked, but we were pleasantly surprised. It was wonderful! We started an annual tradition and are looking forward to next year!!!!

Tracey the manager was amazing. James, our server was bar none! Hostess was a bit peculiar telling us that she’s rude to customers because they are frustrating. Thankful for the manager and our server James!

The food was fantastic but our server, Stephanie, was AMAZING!! She was the cherry on top of the sundae for the whole experience! Can’t wait to visit again next holiday season!!

We brought our two grandsons (ages 5 and 3) to the Walnut Room in Chicago on 1/3/2025, to experience the holiday decor. The "fairies" circulating around to each table were so engaging while chatting with our grandsons, and explaining how to "make a wish". Our server was very friendly and efficient, even under the pressure of a very busy day at the restaurant. The food was very good, and I was pleasantly surprised to see kids menu items available, which our grandsons thoroughly enjoyed. Two small glitches. . 1. Upon arrival, there were soiled napkins/food items on the floor next to one of the chairs at our table. I was disappointed at that mess. One of the "fairies" noticed this mess and got the staff to clean it up and 2. Our cocktails were served AFTER our food arrived. Despite these two small glitches, we had a wonderful time together, and on the way home, our 5 year old grandson told us he had the BEST DAY ever.

Veried menu, something for everyone, gluten free & vegan. I’m gf and always have the braised short ribs, taking off the breadcrumbs. Had my 4 grandkids, the kid’s menu is minimal but they liked the famous chicken pot pie. First time trying this & first time at The Walnut Room & Marshall Fields/Macy’s. I told them my history going there & their father & his sister as kids. I hope to keep the tradition going for their families.
