Tacoma’s newest waterfront restaurant, Woven Seafood & Chophouse, is a Roy Yamaguchi concept owned by The Puyallup Tribe of Indians. Woven celebrates a rich fusion of culinary traditions, honoring Yamaguchi’s Japanese heritage and pioneering Hawaii regional cuisine, along with the traditions of the Puyallup Tribe and the bounty of the Pacific Northwest.

    Our server and the interior was absolutely beautiful. I would not recommend their gravy and biscuits a mushroom gravy on a sweet potato biscuit was not eye appealing, and did not taste very good . We had to send back our sweet potato fries due to over cooking. Their seafood Luis salad was very good. We ordered the scallops, which were OK. We also ordered their waffles, which were beautiful. I would’ve expected a protein side for the price.

    Definitely check this restaurant out! Incredible food, service, and cocktails. You can't go wrong. My only nit would be that the bench seating is high, and the chairs in the main dining room are a bit weird to sit in. Aside from that everything was perfect.

    Woven is a very nice restaurant. However, we were a bit put off when we were taken to our table and we found ourselves in a very bright cafeteria-like area of the restaurant. I had made the reservation weeks in advance and the management surely would have had time to make sure our table was in a prime area. We requested a different table and we were seated in a more desirable area but the table was half booth and half chair. I am a tall woman and my feet didn't even touch the floor on the booth side. It really wasn't very comfortable but we had already complained about the original table so I just went ahead and sat there. The food was excellent and the waiter couldn't have been nicer and very informative. I did feel that the price was a bit high but restaurant prices have gone up a lot lately. I'm not sure I would return--this was my second time at Woven, the first being a lunch engagement when I felt the prices were quite high for the amount of food we were served.

    Our second time at Woven was good, celebrating our anniversary with another couple. Woven staff made us feel welcome with a “Happy Anniversary “ card at our table. The food was well-prepared and excellent. Appetizers of seafood pillows and artichoke-crab were good (pillows not as good as our previous visit). For entrees, the other couple very much liked the lamb ragu. I had the spicy tuna roll (very good) and my wife had the scallops with side of risotto. Hers was well prepared but also well overpriced. $37 for 3 scallops plus having to order the risotto as a $12 side dish was a surprise. The “South Sound” menu was a change - all a la carte - that was definitely overpriced. If you ordered the scallops, which she wanted, it was strictly a la carte with no side dishes. The apple crumble dessert was delicious. (All of us had this with each couple sharing one dish of the dessert.) The scallops and other a la carte dishes had no descriptions as to how they were prepared. Our server enlightened us, but some description would have be helpful to assist in choosing an entree without having to ask the server, and then possibly having to make another choice if the preparation wasn’t what was in mind. Our server was very good, but could have “read” the table better to understand that the four of us were having good conversations and not ready to order either appetizers or entrees during cocktails. Just a thought. Not having a coat check makes the dining area seem more like a sports bar. Hang jackets on the back of chairs or squish them on the benches next to the seating spots? What if it was raining and coats/jackets were wet? This is an oversight in planning the facility layout and, for us, definitely detracts from the ambiance of the dining experience.

    We had an enjoyable dining experience. This was our first time at Woven since the restaurant had been renovated. The food was delicious and our server, Amber N, was very kind and polite. My only quibble is that the support columns on the water side of the building are very large and block certain views of the water from the dining tables, the water view being one of the main reasons for dining there in the first place. But overall, definitely will dine there again.

    The only thing that took a star off was the party that was seated closest to us. They were very rowdy and loud (not sure the in-house protocol to contain this? Or if it’s just based on other patron complaints) which in turn made us want to skip dessert to leave. Everything else was very good. Service, food, and what a stunning visual restaurant that exhibits works of the stewards/first peoples of the land. We will be back in the near future though in hopes for a 5-star worthy visit (which I know can be achieved).
