   I absolutely love the food at Top Hatters, some of my fav in the area. But I really don’t like the QR ordering system, definitely takes away from the experience.

   Top Hatters provides beautiful cuisine and a pleasant atmosphere. We loved the charbroiled oysters and my daughter inhaled the bacon croquettes. Our server Ellis was extremely professional and kind, and while the orders are collected via QR code, (which I feel we can all agree somewhat diminishes the experience and makes it less elevated) our server was present and confidently supported my dietary needs with great care. I believe he was the only server on the floor, and he handled the restaurant in a brilliant way. In the GM of a restaurant in San Francisco, so particularly feel the need to point out FOH talent in a review. Be sure to get plenty of apps to share and don’t skip dessert! The quality of the food is high and appropriate price point for the scope of cuisine and execution. We can’t wait to return! I must try the crab and the oxtail next :) Thank you for a delicious meal and top notch experience!

   Something new and different, especially for San Leandro. Feels like you're in a restaurant that would be in San Francisco, but instead hidden in sleepy SL.

   First time here. Everything was delicious. Everything looked and sounded wonderful on the menu. We had the hamachi tartare with rice crackers - yum! The mushroom and hemp seed pate with assorted breads, crackers and pickles - delicious ! Grilled oysters ( there were 3 of us and 4 oysters in the order and they gladly added 2 to the order so that we each had 2) - yum! Also ordered the bahn mi. There are choices of protein and we chose the grilled galangal pork - delicious! I want to come back and try everything. You order by QR at your table, but if you have any questions they are there to help. Ellis suggested some items and we were happy with those. Cocktails are divine. Had a fairly new one called Mandarin Biretta - a mezcal cocktail that was clean and fresh. We liked it so much, we had two!

   I think our table tried almost everything last night. It was all delicious. The Lions mane fritters were amazing as was the crab and beet salad. Will be going back next week.

    We love Top Hatters, but unfortunately Saturday night was a big miss. Our reserved table wasn't ready so after standing around awhile, we decided to take a seat at the bar instead. But oops - one of the staff was so busy there, they barely looked at us and the other bar staff was deep in a long conversation with a friend, so not on duty I guess? We sorta took it all in but it started to feel like our presence there was a bit of a burden. I couldn't decide what to drink, but stuck with just water after noting that the staff was too busy to check in on a drink order or answer questions. The noise volume there was pretty high too - Sat night, I get it - so eventually we moved to an open table that was offered to finish our meal. No more drinks, no dessert. 'Let's just get out of here,' we said. Sorry guys - you were busy for sure and we empathize, but our visit felt like the straw in the camels' back for your busy crew and that's not a great feeling. On a better note, we visited recently during off hours and were treated like royalty. Moral of the story: We'll avoid TH in the future in favor of other fav restaurants for dinner, and stick to off hours when we crave TH food.
