Here at Toby Carvery Willingdon Drove, we believe there's only one way to do our beloved British roast – and that's properly. Every spud is checked by hand and ruffled for extra crunch. A wonderful place for either a quick 'fill-er-up' or a leisurely dinner. The most reasonable priced restaurant in the UK when it comes to offering a full spread with choice of carvery options, where you may even mix and and match your meats. For the professed Herbivore or committed vegetarian there's even a tasty cornucopia of fresh seasonal vegetables - never less than six fresh veggies of the season, plus the traditional 3-types of potato, carrots, pastas, etc. And for those in the need: We're delighted to say that licensed service animals are warmly received, but in this instance advance booking is highly recommended (We use Open Table). Great luncheon and lovely dinner. You can even enjoy a traditional Full English Brekkie at most of the Toby locations across the UK!

A great place to visit if you're feeling in a carnivorous mood. The food is economical and plentiful. For those who have the appetite of an Elephant, there's even a 'super slice' plate for those who wish to finish off the hardening of their arteries.... it essentially means they slap on even more chunks of meat. To be honest, I've always struggled to complete the normal sized plate... and my Bishop refers to me as a "gentleman of stature," whilst my GP just calls me "fat!" (I'm currently searching for a larger GP! Nice meal when you want someone else to do the tidying up!

Arrived 26 mins early and was asked to wait which we did. But tables very dirty and not cleared of previous peoples lunches , dirty plates , uneaten food and mess all around. A chef in chefs whites was out cleaning the tables in the end . Extremely slow service from our waitresses who never as much as gave her name or showed us where anything was or even explained the carvery to us. There seems to be a very general shortness of staff. But in saying that we had a very good meal , plenty of meat hot vegs etc

When i arrived after booking online to dine at this Restaurant, there was no table booked for me and the Manager told me i must have come on the wrong day, but after showing him the proof of booking on my tablet as it was really busy with all the tables full, rather than send me away, he went and got a table cleaned for me, so great customer service! My server was a lovely lady also, but sadly the food was not up to standard like my last visit there earlier this year, as after queuing for ages there was no pork, the beef fatty, i had the last stone cold yorkshire pud, no roast potatoes, very limited veg of peas and carrots, then when i went to get some gravy, there was none as all the containers were empty, i obviously chose the wrong time to dine (6.30pm), but next time i will book with Toby directly, as that situation was embarrassing and made me loose my appetite before even sampling the food, i should of just left and re-booked for later that evening, disappointing!

We arrived for the meal at Toby to celebrate my grand daughters birthday {her choice} .We had our drink orders taken but not brought to the table for some time.We then went to the carvery to get our meal,no sign of anyone serving after a wait a man came through to serve, choice of meat put on plate and handed the plate holding the plate in our napkin in case plate hot choice of veg etc put on plate very limited gravy available or sauces no one around to ask for refills of these . On returning to table and putting the plate on the table was the first time I touched the actual plate to find it felt dirty with hard dried on dirt to the underside of plate on passing a comment to my daughter and grand daughter they also said their plates felt dirty which in turn meant we did not enjoy the food wondering if the actual plate tops had been clean before the food had been put on it. We did have a pudding each which seemed fine. At no time when we were sitting eating our main meal did the waitress ask if everything was ok. We did not leave a tip and was disappointed with the service the cleanness of the Toby on this visit.

Unfortunately the restaurant had closed until 18.00 due to an leak in the kitchen - nothing on the website. In fact there was no food until 18.20 when there was a stampede to the servery which was very unfair on those who had been waiting since 17.45 or before; something that could and should have been better managed by all staff from the duty manager down. Some of the meats , turkey and beef had been on the side since before we arrived (17.45), and some of the veg had clearly been rushed and were NOT up to usual standard. This coupled with the recent reduction in serving staff combined to give a very negative experience - for the second week running! 3 strikes and definitely OFF my list.

Refused to accept booking due to a head office arranged training session for the evening, so closed ; even though the website still showed them as open!! Unacceptable !!

This topped to be my worst dining experience in my life. The whole experience was appalling. Carvery was disgusting. Service non existent. Manager a poor excuse of a person. Some staff were VERY rude. Toilets were disgusting. Never ever going back. Will be reporting my experience to Mitchell & Butlers direct. More so as they embarrassed me - I used to be a manager for Toby Restaurants many years ago and what I experienced would result in summary dismissal for the manager and all employees in my day.

It's was a lovely meal , I book on line and had confirmation but when we got to the restaurant my book was not on the booking list just lucky the restaurant had a spare table was not happy also my 18month granddaughter had a small plate ask if we could have a small piece of turkey for her and was told he should not and gave her piece but not happy chef. Will phone and book next time .
