We pride ourselves on the quality of our food which uses locally sourced produce wherever possible.

We love the Rhydspence. Fabulous food. Lovely that they have a small menu based on the best locally sourced ingredients. Lovely atmosphere. Staff are great. Dogs welcome. It was our 4th visit today

Dinner, Sat night, five of us, in one of about five different dining areas in this higgledepiggly 16 cent inn, with its ancient egon ronay and AA plates round the porch betraying a succession of owners each leaving a legacy: there's an eightiesish conference-roomey space, a sixtiesish dining room with bright ceiling lights, high backed settles and a fake fire; or a 16 century bar with loads of nooks (and standing locals), and a cavernous log fire all connected by a patterned carpeted floor so uneven you'd think you'd been drinking since noon...and the gothic 'mind your head' signage beloved by copper kettle tea rooms in cathedral towns... but the folk running this now (after a long series of owners including real Basil Fawlties) know exactly what they're doing, so: a board of sourdough with oil and balsamic (never enough, of course) as we scanned the shrewdly condensed menu (4 starters, 4 mains, no main over £20 and no need for sides) of which we all had roughly one of everything and all was pretty impeccable, both cooking and presentation: whipped cods roe with airy sourdough slices; rillettes (so-so, they usually are), a luscious, glutinous ox cheek stew with bricks of perfect dauphinoise; what they describe as chalk stream trout was a perfectly cooked pink steak-size cross-section of fish in a creamy lagoon of tiny veg, raved about, all followed by panna cottas and creme brulees and a bill that was - if you take off my extravagant buy of a vintage bin-end - about £46 pp. We waddled out stuffed and happy and didn't trip up on the ancient cobbled pavement.

Our table was booked for 7.30pm and unfortunately the menu was limited due to one of the starters and one of the main courses being sold out. Which left 3 starters and 3 mains. I had informed the restaurant that I am a vegetarian 10 days before but only 1 main was suitable for me.

Had a wonderful meal here! The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. The service was also fantastic—friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The only slight downside was that the chairs weren’t the most comfortable, and the room was a bit chilly, but it didn’t take away from the overall experience. We still had a great time and would definitely return. A few small tweaks and it would be perfect!

GOOD MEAL CHOICE, GLASS OF WINE OR OTHER DRINK INCLUDED, WE WERE SAT IN THE OLDEST ROOM IN THIS BEAUTIFUL PUB/RESTAURANT. i CAN RECOMMEND THIS PLACE WHERE THINGS ARE INFORMAL, ATMOSPHERIC, WARM, AND WHAT A LOVELY STAFF THEY EMPLOY. We were looking forward to a great evening of fine food and wine as advertised, but unfortunately we only had a choice of a £50 pp valentine set menu which was disappointing in the extreme with only three choices per course, two really by the time you dismiss the vegetarian option, so starters were left with raw salmon or very greasy pate. This menus should have been clearly posted all over the web site and on open table at the point of booking to avoid utter disappointment. Vent over ! On the upside the staff were very efficient and very friendly, they tried their best to apologise and offered complimentary drinks at the end while we waited for a taxi.

First time eating here on a recommendation. And we were not disappointed We had a little table for 2 by the big roaring fire ( absolute bonus) Squash starter, two beef mains and one of the best Tiramasu I have had Service, staff all fabulous Well be back
