The Red Maple was originally owned and operated by the Trauth Family, a German-American family of restaurateurs spanning 100 years in Gretna. And what began in 1963 continues to this day, holding to its German roots through its rustic Alpine lodge decor, extensive beer selection and annual Oktoberfest celebration. In fact, it was a red maple tree in the side yard that inspired the name of the bar – The Red Maple – with the restaurant being added in 1965.

Now for over 50 years, The Red Maple has been the rendezvous spot for West Bank movers and shakers known for its Prime cut steaks, New Orleans favorites and fresh Louisiana seafood.

Today, under the passionate guidance of Proprietor Brent Trauth and his sister, Carroll Gales, The Red Maple continues to deliver on its reputation for delicious food, exceptional service and rich Louisiana history. A rich and storied past that is only upstaged by the dining experience itself.

Carroll is an amazing general manager who always makes sure each guest feels welcomed. The staff is pleasant and attentive. The food is excellent and consistent. We are fortunate to have this gem on the Westbank!

I hosted a small Mardi Gras ladies lunch. We arrived at 11:00 am and didn’t leave until dark. Staff was very accommodating. We wound up on the patio having cocktails. The food was delicious and we had a fabulous time!

Our waiter Chris was so sweet we’re waiters so he did everything correct from our perspective! Food was really good too (limited for Valentines Day plus no substitutions which we expected) and a nice selection of wine! We got the ribeye cooked perfectly and the Redfish which was awesome. Oysters did take longer than expected though. I only give it 4 stars because of the lighting it was just too bright. If I could rate to 4.9/5 I would so we’ll be back!

Delicious food! The salmon was cooked perfectly and the steak was too! Well seasoned! Melted in your mouth!

Our server was very attentive and knowledgable of the menu. We all had steak. And, everyone’s was cooked perfectly. Would highly recommend.

Always clean, warm and welcoming. Friendly and attentive staff. Bread service is nice. The stuffed mushrooms were very good but the lemon beurre Blanc sauce was out of this world. My hamburger steak was an over cooked and burnt for part of it. However, the mashed potatoes and green beans were delicious. The seafood stuffed soft shell crab was impressive. Once again, the sauce on the crawfish pasta that came with it was delicious and could have been a meal by itself. The shrimp and fish plate was fried to perfection and generous. All the entrees were generous. The food came out fairly soon and the prices were fair for what you got. The Red Maple is consistently one of the best dining experiences on the Westbank..especially after Mandina’s and Rizzuto’s closed. My only complaint is the credit card service charge. I don’t like that concept at any restaurant. I understand why some businesses do it but not restaurants. Eating out is a luxury not a necessity. Charge more for the food or charge for the bread service.
