Nestled on the shores of Pearl Harbor, The Pearl Restaurant at Leeward Community College is a student operated establishment with a passion for serving our guests an amazing contemporary, fine dining experience. The heartbeat of our operation revolves around our students, being able to showcase their creative culinary artistry and talents, along with providing the warmth of genuine hospitality.
While it may seem like we are a normal restaurant, The Pearl is primarily a place of learning for our culinary students. Their education is our priority and we do our best, with limited resources, to provide an excellent dining experience for our guests. During a pandemic it is difficult to operate at maximum efficiency and capacity. We have very limited seating, and we need extra time to carefully prepare our kitchen and dining area for your safety. We appreciate your understanding as we try to manage our reservations and adhere to our safety requirements and guidelines.

Wonderful place, wonderful experience, wonderful value! Serving on Wednesday - Friday.
This was an even better experience because it was a Student Choice Event. Normally the students prepare and serve menus chosen by their head chef mentor. But today they served dishes they created. The dining room was surrounded by serving stations manned by the student chefs so they can see client reactions to their dishes. What an awesome idea, right?! They create dishes to an overall theme. This theme was “A Tour of Asia”. Perfect for Hawaii, which already represents a melange of Asian peoples. It was a 5-course meal where every course was exquisite. The wait staff expertly served and explained each dish. This was the near-end of their current semester so there will be a brief pause before a new menu is introduced by the head chef and classmates will swap positions. Chefs will become wait staff. Wait staff will become chefs. In this way they all get front and back of house experience. I get this from talking to the head chef, floor manager and staff. What an amazingly excellent program!! And such a good value at $39/person. So further support this program by dropping a donation in the suggestion box to the left on your way out. Every dollar counts!

The Student’s Menu is always impressive. Their food creations outstanding. How do the Students come up with their creations?

Excellent lunch. Creative prix fixe menu that exceeded my already high expectations for The Pearl. Surprise addition of a champagne-blood orange sorbet amuse bouche raised the bar even higher. The student staff served the almost-full dining room with grace and elan.
I can't wait for my next opportunity to dine there.

I have fond memories dining at The Pearl. The students were trained on proper cuisine prep and dining services. They executed their duties like pros but with the humility of novices. My last dining experience on Valentines Day 2025 felt different. The service was disjointed, and dishes disappointed. They surprised us with a deliscious mouse with their wonderful bread as an opening. But things took a turn with each of the three couses. The panzanella salad appetizer was lifeless, and the seared ahi was cold and lacked flavor. I asked the server about the salad, and she had no idea what made it a panzanella. Students usually know all about each dish and show pride in their skill. The entree took over thirty minutes to arrive, and when it was served she said there was confusion in the kitchen, looked at my plate and said do you mind if I take it back because its missing an ingredient. I said no, then she said oh their it is between the lobster. " A miniscule amount of roe that was hard to see. The miso butter capallini was cold, and the butter congealed onto the pasta, creating a hard mass. The lobster was three tiny slices and luke warm. Major disappointment for a Pearl entree. The desert was the icing on the cake. The menu described a banana chocolate cream pie semifreddo. What they served was a few thin slices of banana, and a chocolate kiss like dot, that made the playe look empty. There was no cake at all. No semifreddo anywhere to be seen. I attached a pic to help understand my disappointment. I routinely give rave reviews for The Pearl, and I realize they are students. But something went terribly wrong on Valentines Day. For one, the dining room was crowded and usually, they only seat half the tables based on the number of students. The kitchen and service staff were clearly overwhelmed. I learned that the program manager had left and a new manager was at the helm, who appeared to be acting more as a server than a manager. I don't blame the students.

We had an amazing experience here at The Pearl for Valentine’s Day. Service was incredible! Our water glasses were never empty as they were constantly refilled! All of the food was scrumptious and beautifully plated. This place is a gem and fantastic deal! We can’t wait to come back!

Lovely setting, attentive service, excellent food! We always appreciate the basket of homemade breads, which today included luscious mini-scones and sweet/salty lavosh.
