We stayed at the Monterey Beach Hotel and initially chose the Lantern Room for ease of use so we didn't have to drive anywhere after a long day of exploring the area. Our expectations were about average for a hotel restaurant. Thankfully, our expectations were far exceeded. The food, service, atmosphere were all at a caliber much higher than we anticipated. The staff were friendly and accommodating, the food beautifully prepared and presented, the ingredients of a quality you'd expect from a very high end restaurant and to top it off- a great view of the ocean. We ended up eating breakfast and dinner there each day of our stay. Outstanding.

Great view of beavh&ocean. The noise level was deafening! Lots of pleasant staff asking to help. Being served took a very long time and food was just warm. I ordered short ribs (I think $35.) which would normally be well done and melty tender ~ these were still pink and tough. We had waited so long when the waiter eventually asked how was the meal I just said, “fine”. Again, the waiter staff were very nice , the noise and mediocre food were not their fault‼️ Very disappointing; will not return &/or recommend.😵‍💫

I have eaten here twice for breakfast and both times were exceptional. Beautiful restaurant, beautiful views, fantastic service, great menu selections and fantastic food.

We wanted to try out this new place, and were for the most part pleased! The portions were large and everything is sourced from local vendors.. We started with the mussels in a thai broth (great but the bread was slightly burned) and tomato-fennel soup (couldn’t taste the fennel, should have been warmer). For entrees, we had the black cod and the vegan baked squash. Both were served with the same sides and were outstanding but the pea shoot garnishes must have been sitting on the warm plates and were wilted and not very pretty to look at. Each dish enough for 2 meals! For dessert, we had the chocolate pot au créme and lemon tart,both good but not more. Chamomile tea was whole berries and delicious! They give discounts to locals and nearly every table has a fabulous sunset view! Anna, our waitress, was just lovely! A good start for a new venue overall. We are looking forward to the future!

Everything about The Lantern Room was spot on. The quality of the food, ambience, and service was outstanding. I can see this restaurant becoming a local treasure.

Not a New Year’s Eve event as advertised but rather a $95 per person dinner. One guest received the wrong food, one couldn’t eat the way-overcooked fish, and one believed the short ribs ordered were definitely some other type of meat. When the five of us arrived, there was no hostess to greet or seat us, and we had to flag someone down. Ordered a bottle of wine and had to again ask for the wine well into our meals. No hats or other celebratory items, no music, just dinner. We all left thoroughly disappointed well before midnight.

This restaurant should know that the Christmas dinner was advertised on Open Table at Service at $25 pp which I thought was low considering the Holiday. The bill amounted to over $415.00 for 3 courses and not worthy of that steep a price. It was disappointing that not once did anyone ask how our meals were or if we needed anything. We also had to seek out the server to get our leftovers so we could leave. Otherwise the chef did a good job with the salmon…The beet salad was delicious. The duck was a bit dry and lacked flavor and the prime rib was thin and tasted frozen. Dessert was average at best. I recommend the apple crisp. The Lantern martini 🍸 I do not recommend and would have ordered something different but no one checked. Disappointed in the quality of service and the food was inconsistent. Perhaps they should rethink being open for a major Holiday.

We had great service. The location was stunning. The $115 prix fixe menu was good but not exceptional.

This is a spectacular place to dine with beachfront view of Monterey Bay from every window! It's on the top floor of the Monterey Beach Hotel. The restaurant was recently remodeled with cool decor and very comfortable seating. The wait staff was very attentive. The cuisine was delicious, especially the grilled Ad Astra bread, brussels sprouts and pasta dishes. Great cocktails too. We will return again very soon.
