Located in St. Sampsons Square - a historic part of York’s city centre known for selling great meat since the 12th century - The Cut & Craft York is widely considered one of York’s best steak restaurants.

Boasting its own in-house master butcher and a signature 10oz Flat Iron steak, this elegant restaurant is stylishly decorated with historic features throughout. Open daily for lunch and dinner, with brunch and roasts on the weekends, it’s centrally located close to the famous mediaeval York Shambles and under the shadow of York Minster.

Named 'Restaurant of the Year' at the Yorkshire National Business Hero Awards in 2023 and 2024, The Cut & Craft combines contemporary steak and seafood dishes with a premium list of locally-crafted drinks.

This was our first visit to The Cut & Craft and I will definitely be coming back. The atmosphere was great. There were lots of people enjoying their food and catching up with friends. Was lovely to see. The service was quicker than I thought it would be. It was very busy but we didn’t have to wait long for our food to come. I had the calamari starter which was some of the best I’ve had in a very long time. Followed by the lamb chops for my main. Again, this was delicious. The others on my table had the fish and chips which I was told was very tasty. We also had a vegan with us who had the veggie shepherds pie and there was not a crumb left. The cocktails were also exceptional. Perfect start to the Christmas period celebrations. We will definitely be back to try some of the other food.

We had the Sunday lunch sharing platter and sticky toffee pudding and it was amazing! Expensive but so so good!! The sticky toffee was amazing too. The staff were brilliant so helpful.

Very welcoming. We went as a large group that included 5 children. The waiting staff were incredibly friendly and kind with the children and made us feel very welcomed. Food was delicious and good value for the quality that it was. We will definitely be returning!

Absolutely wonderful!!! The restaurant is beautifully decorated, the service is impeccable and the food was delicious! I cannot fault it, and cannot wait to return.

Absolutely wondetfulin every way! We regularly eat out in fine dining establishments and this restaurant was amongst the best. This was a birthday treat for my fiancé and he was very impressed and had a wonderful memorable evening. Food, service, ambiance and quality of drinks was wonderful x Thank you for a fabulous experience xxx

Had a great time here for my husbands 50th birthday. There were 9 of us but service was superb even when my son who asked for his steak to be done a bit more they brought a brand new steak out for him. Lovely surroundings to and although busy didn’t feel it. Would definitely go back again.

First time visiting and we were not disappointed! We had starters and main, both delicious with the steaks cooked perfectly. We had the calamari & seafood tempura for starters. Mains, fillet and ribeye with truffle chips, cauliflower cheese and the garlic bread. Probably one of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten. Cocktails were also really good! We recommend the amaretto sours and paradise in Yorkshire. Service was very friendly and quick! We were only there around 1hr 30mins on a busy Saturday night. Will be coming again in the future.

Great experience. Right in in the Centre of the city with a great vibe and stylish looks. For an extremely busy restaurant this place has it nailed. All staffed dressed smartly with aprons and with each having a different role to play in your experience. Guest reception, leads onto table service, dinks service, food deliver and then table cleaning, finally leading onto staff who settle the bill. Very efficient and well looked after at the table. Its not just about the food but the whole experience. I wished I had gone for one of the steaks as these looked really good. However with a flat iron steak fajita and blue cheese and chicken salad with nibbles and bread and butter pudding, this was lovely. Defo worth a try and we'll be back next time we visit York,
