The Courtyard offers a warm farmhouse feel in the heart of Northumberland. Situated in Pegswood, the historic building which dates back to early-1900s, sits on the main route to Longhirst, once a home of. “Old King Cole”. Steeped in history, and influenced by the bistros of rural Italy, The Courtyard is certainly a place to visit.

Matt Hudson, head chef, brings a wealth of experience and a stellar reputation, having made a significant impact in the culinary world with his exceptional talent. His innovative and flavourful dishes have not only delighted diners but also earned him numerous accolades. Under his leadership, two gastro pubs in the North East were recognised in The Guardian's prestigious list of Best Gastro Pubs.

Matt is an ethical chef that likes to cook head to tail, leaving no waste from an animal. His commitment to using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients aligns perfectly with our philosophy of providing high-quality, sustainable dining experiences.

Lovely first visit to The Courtyard. Food excellent & this will now be our go to eaterie. My only grumble was that we were sat under a speaker ( no problem with music choice) but the volume had me struggling to hear my companion. I hope the vege options change regularly. My pea & asparagus tart was super but i do like to try different things. Will go back for coffee & cake during the day soon.

Having now become a regular (and regarding this as quite an exalted position), we were yet again delighted with our visit. The food was excellent, beautifully presented and thoroughly enjoyable, great value surpassed only by the taste. The crowning glory (as always) is the service- professional, friendly and warm only scratches the surface of the team whose individuals are well trained and lovely. The staff are always a reflection of the business and these guys are great - thanks ladies 😊.

Had a really lovely night last night, thank you to all the staff for the excellent experience, already can’t wait to come back, the food is stunning and the service is outstanding. 10/10.

first time at The Courtyard, very impressed. Excellent decor & ambiance Superb efficient & friendly service 3 x 5* Sunday Lunches, beautiful roasts, well cooked veggies and immaculately presented. We'll be back.

A lovely 1st visit that won't be out last! The food selection was a little different to your usual gastro pub so if you're looking for something different then it's worth a visit. My husband tends to enjoy quantity on his plate however he was very impressed with the flavours rather than the quantity for a change. Service was brilliant.

Everything flowed perfectly at the Courtyard from the minute we walked in the door. Lovely soft tastful music, whilst still the babble of the customers. Staff were charming, food delicious. Thank you for the experience. Elizabeth Gregson
