A modern American restaurant in Navy Yard where Executive Chef Reid Shilling serves his take on seasonal cuisine highlighting ingredients from around the Chesapeake region. Experiences include a 7-course tasting menu (served exclusively at the Chef's Counter), a 3-course prix fixe menu, an a la carte menu, and a weekend brunch menu.

The 7-course tasting menu is seasonally driven and changes regularly offering guests a front-row seat to the open kitchen. Enjoy an expansive offering of Chef Reid Shilling’s regularly changing culinary creations and seasonally-inspired dishes, all prepared with a hyper-local approach to sourcing. This experience is the only menu served at the Chef’s Counter and may be previewed on our website.

The French onion soup was absolutely incredible. I have been searching for a good French onion soup to rival that of a restaurant near my college campus in Philadelphia for over 30 years and finally found it. The fried chicken was amazing. It was actually better than fried chicken I’ve had in Asheville from a place that specializes in good fried chicken. The care and attention they give to preparing the food as rival only by the care and attention they give to guests. The staff, which is friendly knowledgeable and accommodating, is a big asset. The owner also cares greatly about his guests’ experiences. I will go back soon to try some of their other dishes.

Absolutely fantastic! Service from the bar was slow, but they came over & updated us that a few ppl called out that evening. So, in that case, I do not hold the restaurant responsible because they had the courtesy of letting us know. We met the owner who sent over complimentary cookies. Everything was fantastic, A++++ Keep in mind this was also the same evening that the military helicopter crashed into the plane with Olympic Ice Skaters on the Potomac, which literally right there. 🙏 🤲 Rip to all that passed.

The Navy Yard is know for fine dining, and I expected SCC to be good, but good does not capture how great the entire experience was. We tried several appetizers, and they all set the stage for the main course. The Sea Bass and seasonal Crab Cakes were nothing short of phenomenal. From the time we arrived, we were catered to like we were VIPs. If you are at the Navy Yard and looking for the highest quality food, SCC is a must! We look forward to our next visit.

This restaurant was clearly having some process issues. The ambiance was nice and when the food was finally delivered it was tasty and creative but this is the only good thing I can say. It took over one hour to get our main course delivered. To fill the gap, we ordered a second round of drinks but it took them fifteen minutes to deliver them. The table next to us arrived at the same time as us. Because they complained, they got a visit from the manager, an apology and a discount coupon. We got nothing.

Shillings remains a favorite of ours since opening a few years ago. The staff, food, and overall experience is second to none. Highly recommend

This was my second time at Shilling Canning. The service is excellent from the time you enter until the time you leave. The food was fair. It was fresh, but it lacked flavor/bland and was lukewarm when it arrived. Overall, the service, environment and ambience was excellent.
