Pausa, a bar and cookery in San Mateo, calls for guests to take a recess from life and enjoy a dining experience that transports them to a place of leisure. With a strong focus on modern Italian, our menu will consist of house-made pasta, wood-fired pizza, wood-fired grill, and house-cured meats. Our friendly and knowledgeable team will ensure your pause is a memorable one.

We are now taking reservations for our patio tables, bar, and indoor tables. As we practice social distancing with our new limited floor plan, we ask that you and your guests limit your dining to 2 hours to accommodate all reservations.

When checking table availability, if outdoor seating is not an option to select, then your reservation will be for an indoor table as the outdoor may be booked.

    We have reservations at the bar. I’m not sure why the server allowed another couple to sit/stand next to us. Literally there was only ONE seat, my partner and another group totally felt bothered by how cramp it was. Another guest broke his glass water cup that splashed all over my partner in the waiting area. We had our meals spaced out, but their was an awkward pause of almost 25 mins after we we done with our breast and salad for our entrees. While cleaning the bar tender dropped the utensils all over my partner while removing the plates… Margarita pasta was soggy. The plus side was the drinks were good! We enjoyed the bread, salad, and pasta.

    Pausa never disappoints, but last night was exceptional! It was my first time going there for my birthday and they could not have made it more special. They accommodated our table indoors when we made the reservation even though they were full at that time and the staff was amazing the whole night. The hardest part was trying to decide between the pizza and their other delicious entrées. Their pizzas are incredible. I can’t wait to go back!

    Went early (4:30) for drinks and appetizers before an event. Our waiter, JohnCarlo, was knowledgeable about the spirits and wines and helped us select some great choices. We also thoroughly enjoyed the burrata and tuna appetizers. Great choices.

    Went on a Friday night. Vibrant atmosphere, noisy but not in a negative way. Fantastic, attentive service. Our waiter knew the menu well and made great recommendations. Fantastic drinks, great appetizers and wonderful entrees. Highly recommended!
