   We had a very nice meal for my wife's birthday on 12 March. The welcome, service and food were all very nice indeed. I thought the cocktails were a bit pricey but otherwise, everything was lovely.

   Lovely place to eat, food good but dreadfully slow service. Appear to be under staffed.

   With the restaurant full, the noise level made it difficult to make the bar staff hear our drinks order. The tables were so close together that it was possible to have a three way conversation between my guest and the two neighbouring tables, so I would advise not going for a romantic soiree if you hoping to patch up your relationship as the couple next to us were doing….. unsuccessfully as it turned out. The food was lovely for the most part, with generous portion sizes. However the cheese board served up to me was embarrassing — it was tired looking, very small portions, the Cheddar was drying and the walnuts detailed on the menu were entirely absent. There were no crudities or even the ubiquitous grape. As a former restaurant professional, I would have been embarrassed to serve this. The staff seemed nice however and did what they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible.

   Another great meal at No 23, marred only by the high noise level which made regular conversation a little challenging. In addition, being seated near the main entrance was a little chilly as other customers came and went. Service was friendly and excellent as usual.

   James possesses credible bar knowledge and is an asset to the team. The service was slow, it took 15 mins before we were asked if we wanted a drink. Starters were timely, but our main dishes took a while. The table near to us arrived after us and were served their main dishes before us. Food was good. Would still come back.

    James and the team did a great job! We both had the market day special which was very tasty. I had the chocolate and hazelnut tart with hazelnut nut ice cream which was superb. We would highly recommend a visit if you haven’t already been.
