Featuring modern renditions of classic American seafood, Max’s Oyster Bar menu has something for everyone. While seafood is the focal point, there are selections for even the most ardent landlubber. Ethnic influences are apparent throughout a menu filled with new interpretations on traditional fare. The raw bar offers an extensive variety of bi-coastal oysters and shellfish.

In it’s freshman year, 1999, Max’s Oyster Bar was awarded “Best New Restaurant” by Connecticut Magazine. Since then it has won numerous Reader’s Choice Awards, including “Best Seafood Restaurant”. Zagat’s Survey has also given Max’s Oyster Bar an “extraordinary” rating.

It was busy and there were no empty tables. Service was attentive as always but additionally, welcoming and warm. Little minor conversations with staff, one who shared that his mother’s birthday was the same day as my husband’s which we were celebrating, made it feel like they were happy to have us there.

We always have a delicious meal at Max’s, but tonight seemed even more so. I had the brussel and kale salad which had a very light and delicious lemon dressing. Then I had the rainbow trout almondine and it was amazing! My husband loved his plainly prepared scallops as well! My only complaint was we were not offered bread until we’ll after our salads were done and it had to be heated and didn’t come out till we were basically done our entrees.

We had wanted to go to brunch and have been to many of the other Max restaurant group locations but hadn't tried this one before. There was a singer and musician performing which added a nice element to the experience. The menu had some great selections and everyone was very pleased with what they ordered. Nice variety of cocktails suitable for brunch and we topped it off with sharing a dessert for the table. Very attractive restaurant, this service was flawless and food was outstanding. Great experience.

We enjoyed the food - the sole stuffed w seafood was really delicious. The desserts we got as part of the price fixe weren’t as great as the appetizers and mains but they were kind of gilding the lily anyway after our full meals.

We have eaten there many times and the food and service has always been fabulous. Their specials are usually great and it’s nice to have a change from the regular menu. We do not normally sit near the front door because it’s a little noisier… We usually sit in the back by the raw bar. if you’re looking for really good fresh food, this is the place to go..

I have frequent this restaurant many times over the years, service has always been great. Today however I booked a reservation to celebrate a birthday, upon arrival, reception was sour, no greeting, no nothing. Got to our table, server came over said hello and shook my other person hand, who is white and completely ignored me ( who booked the reservation and may I add, I am brown). It was so obvious !!! For the entire visit, she was snobby to me and I still give her a 20% tip. After that experience, would probably never return to this restaurant.

Great place on a Tuesday night. Lovely atmosphere, didn’t feel crowded, nice noise level. Good music. Amazing food and drink. Server was friendly and helpful.
