Manta is the signature restaurant of the iconic Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and has breathtaking views of the Kohala Coast. The menu is a curation of Pacific Rim cuisine with seasonal, local, and sustainably-produced ingredients.
Chef Bryan Nagao has gained formidable reputation in the international food community. He was once described by American media as "the most notable figures in rendering Modern Asian cuisine in the Northern hemisphere". The creativity permeating his cuisine stems from the diversity of his culinary background. Bryan's cuisine is a multi-faceted reflection of his Hawai'i Island birthplace, his Japanese ancestry, and decades spent in the finest restaurants in Hong Kong and Taipei.

Food was very good. Despite the fact that four out of five main course were served just luke warm. However service quality lacked and was not on the level you would expect, considering the prices asked. Especially since there are other comparable restaurants around Kamuela and Waimea where service is better

Beautiful evening and dinner on the terrace watching the Manta Ray boats and the lights in the water. Nearby was a fire pit. Great service and well -prepared and served meal. Mahalo!

Food was amazing. I had seered ahi and my wife had the Mahi Mahi special which she enjoyed. You have to finish with the chocolate souffle. As good as the foods is the service is better. Then the view is the best part. Would never come to Hawaii and not go here.

We’ve dined at Manta many times over the years, and something has happened here in the last 18 months, and not for the better. The hostess was rude, our waitress was nervous and basically acted scared of her job all night, the wine menu, once one of the better and more interesting wine menus on the island had lost its creativity and uniqueness and become a distributors list of recommendations (boring). The food felt uninspired and lacked the subtle flavors that make a meal great without letting the local ingredients be the star, it was perplexing at best. Not sure if there’s new management, but there’s definitely a new somm or beverage manager. Bring back the old Manta.

We loved our waiter and the beach setting of this restaurant. All our food was very good and cook the way we wanted it. My only criticism is that I ordered the Chocolate Mousse and nobody explained how to put the dessert together. This is the first time that I have ever had this served to me in this way. I have no idea if I put this dessert together as the chef intended it to be experienced but I doubt it. The waiter was not the one to drop this off to me so my comment would be to not let anyone serve this dessert if they can't do it justice.
