Award-winning Chef Juan Gomez, who helped República garner best new restaurant nods from Bon Appétit and James Beard, is taking a more personal approach to PNW cuisine. Recently nominated one of the Top 50 Restaurants in the Country by the New York Times, Lilia offers dishes like Pork Collar Confit and fresh Aguachile, leaning on Chef Juan's Mexican-American roots while showcasing hyper-seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. The airy, unpretentious space and breezy patio befit the South Waterfront vibe.

    The most exciting restaurant in Portland at the moment. Chef Juan comes up with new ways to elevate and expand classic dishes each week; as well as coming up with startling good and mind and mouth engaging new creations. Wife Sam’s baking and desserts are also not to be missed. The whole brigade is firing on all pistons.

    I enjoy Chef Juan's descriptions of what you are about to consume. He not only tells you about the food but also where they are sourced. This is a delightful part of the meal. Stella's amazing tequila sour with egg white foam was so delicious that we had three each.

    This was an amazing way to start off our trip to Portland. If given the opportunity, snag a res and enjoy whatever menu the chef and co creates for the week! We opted to sit at the chef counter, which was a great way to see the dishes finished and chat with the chef. Every dish we feasted on was artfully prepared and exquisite in taste. Though the standouts were the huitlacoche/brussels/black garlic dish, pork collar/cabbage/hominy, and the chilaquiles. The huitlacoche provided a Ratatouille moment where I was reminded of my childhood. The flavors and textures were intricate, but the bean mousse was phenomenal. It packed so much flavor, despite how airy it was. I also never realized that charred Brussels sprouts could pair so well with a Mexican inspired dish. The pork collar/cabbage dish was almost a deconstructed pozole. The amount of texture the dish lacked was insane and despite its heat, I couldn’t stop eating the sauce! The housemade chips were the perfect vessel for that dish. I don’t usually enjoy chilaquiles, but this dish blew that previous notion up. The flavors, the spice, and how well they paired together is something I’ll never forget. The desserts were both perfect, with the fromage blanc being extremely light and airy. The before from the wait staff to the kitchen/chef made this experience one for the books and I’m thankful to have had the opportunity to try this place. Love that they work with local sources for ingredients. Like I said, if able to, this place is a must try!

    The food was absolutely amazing--when we left we were all raving about it. We had the chef's tasting menu of numerous courses and they were all esthetically and culinarily superb. Our server, unfortunately, was just OK and had a bit of an attitude--definitely not as friendly and accommodating as the other service staff who assisted us. This is a small place on the South Waterfront but it is definitely worth a trip!

    Superb! We tasted one of everything on the menu, which was a great way to share for 4 people. We all loved the oysters, little flavorful bites of warm deliciousness! The wait staff was attentive and explained each dish in detail. Very nice cocktails and wines were available. The white chocolate dessert was so interesting & heavenly. Overall 5 stars! Definitely recommend!

    Tasting menu with wine pairings was excellent! Every dish was delicious and went well with the wines served. Outstanding service. Highly recommend Lilia.

    Am amazing meal as always. The food is crazy creative and always delicious. This is one of Portlands gems!

    So disappointed! We have been here several times and had an awesome experience with food that make you say "how did they do this???" We had 3 entrees this visit and the best one was the sheep milk dressing on the chicory salad and they were pretty stingy with the amount. The two large entrees were barely edible. One was a very crispy hard taquito with mushroom and potato filling that had no flavor and a few spoonfuls of crab on top. The combo was disconnected. The other entree was meatballs on polenta with a very spicy "mole like" sauce. It overpowered the mild polenta and the meatballs were bland. This is not the review I would expect to write for any restaurant in this group but my husband and I were extremely surprised at the decrease in quality. Our server mentioned that the chef had left at half shift to "spend time with his family" on a Saturday night. I doubt this impacted the experience but it is worth noting. I'm not sure whether we will give them another try but I hope this isn't going to be others experience.
