Nous étions dans la salle du fond au rez-de-chaussée, c'est un beau cadre typique du vieux Montréal (pierres apparentes), élégant et qui permet de voir les frigos à charcuterie notamment. Bien qu'un second groupe était sur la table à côté et que la salle était pleine, le volume sonore était très agréable. Les plats et le vin ont été servis rapidement et à la bonne température pour les apprécier pleinement. Que ce soit les calmars grillés ou les différentes pâtes tout était excellent. Mention spéciale à la "cheese wheel", c'est une petite animation que de voir le serveur utiliser une meule de Pecorino en la faisant d'abord flamber puis en y mélangeant les pâtes. Les desserts ne sont eux pas tout à fait au même niveau bien qu'ils restent bons. Nous avons passé une excellente soirée et c'est définitivement un restaurant à tester car tout le monde y trouvera son bonheur

My husband and I went to Jacopo for my birthday dinner and the experience was so poor I was honestly dumbfounded. Short version: our meal - or half a meal, I should say - lasted almost 2 hours during which we shared 1 antipasto, waited an eternity for our pasta course - getting it only after asking if it was still coming, and… actually, there wasn’t any other food. After we were well past the hour and a half mark, we took our server up on the offer (kind of strange?) to cancel the second course we’d ordered since the kitchen hadn’t even started on it. For background- I disclosed that it was my birthday when we booked the reservation; and the hostess mentioned this to her colleague who sat us, so I know they were aware. Shortly after being sat at a quite snug table in the rear room of the second floor, someone asked if we wanted to move to a more spacious table in the front room. We accepted and then sat at the new table without getting any menus for some time. We ordered the formage and charcuterie sampler as our antipasto and it was good (better than decent, not great). After finishing we waited at an empty table for so long I had to ask our waiter if the past was still coming. After another 10-15 minutes, our dishes arrived; the spaghetti alla carbonara was good though a bit salty (as guanciale can be) however the rigatoni con pesto genovese was overcooked and lackluster. Our server actually offered twice to cancel our secondi course (again, kind of odd…) and finally threw in the towel and accepted. He offered to comp a tiramisu and not being a big fan of it, I declined. Comping one or both of the glasses of wine we *had* ordered would have been an appreciated alternative, but I didn’t feel like pushing the matter; I honestly just wanted to be able to leave at that point. Sad to say, but Jacopo’s ultimately felt like the Old Montreal tourist trap I feared it might be. And bummed I got to sacrifice my birthday dinner to learn this.

Service impeccable, notre serveuse était très professionnelle et d’une gentillesse remarquable. La bouffe très très bonne. Chez Jacopo un simple rigatoni devient un plat divin et tellement bon! Communication facile pour réservation et changement pour l’heure d’arrivée.

I encountered a significant issue during my recent visit to Jacopo, which was marred by an unexpected sight. As a native of the United States, I had a positive experience on my first visit, and I invited friends to celebrate my birthday there. I even reached out to the restaurant to inform them about the occasion and express my excitement about sharing my birthday at their establishment for the second time in three years. Upon our arrival, we waited briefly for our table and were seated next to the open kitchen. While the service was initially slow due to the restaurant’s busyness, I understood the delay. However, towards the end of our meal, I noticed a substantial number of mouse droppings on the ledge that leads to the open window of the kitchen where the food is prepared. Disappointed by the sight, I rose from my seat and moved away from the area. I informed the waitress about the presence of the droppings, and she inquired if I had observed a mouse. I clarified that I had only seen the droppings, and she responded with a sigh of relief, exclaiming, “Whew, at least no mouse!” This response left me perplexed and disappointed. The waitress failed to acknowledge the inconvenience caused by the unsanitary conditions and did not apologize for the lack of cleaning efforts. The nonchalance with which she handled the situation was particularly concerning, as it appears to be a common occurrence at the restaurant. As a result of this incident, I am unable to fully appreciate the food I ordered. The memory of the mouse droppings lingers in my mind, overshadowing the dining experience. While I understand that restaurants may encounter occasional issues, I believe they have a responsibility to maintain a clean and sanitary environment for their patrons. Unfortunately, my positive experience on my first visit was tainted by this unfortunate incident, leaving a negative impression on my friends who had joined me for the celebration.
