Opened in 2011, Indigenous has earned a reputation for being an inspirational and educational restaurant. For years, Indigenous has been known as one of America’s top restaurants, renowned for its passion for food, the community, and the planet. Indigenous’ menu of seasonal American cuisine changes progressively throughout the year based on peak ingredient availability. With a focus on sustainable seafood, we work closely with local fisherman, artisans, and farmers to maintain the highest quality. At Indigenous, we are always working our best to create a better food system. Owner Chef Steve Phelps has been a James Beard Foundation Semi Finalist for Best Chef South in 2014 & 2015, an Ambassador for Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Blue Ribbon Task Force, and a founding member and Chef for the EDF Coalition for Sustainable Aquaculture.

    We had terrific service from Georgia, our waitperson and delicious food. One of us had a less than satisfactory main course which was immediately replaced by her choice of a substitute. The pork chop was extraordinary and enormous. Our table was comfortable and the noise level was not intrusive.

    First time at Indigenous. Such a cool cute place. Very quaint and vibrant setting. We could see the kitchen at work and every plate was meticulously inspected prior to service. As an appetizer, we had the Mushroom Bisque and Trout Pate— both were our favorite dishes of the night. My wife had the burger and I had the pork chop. The flavors were on point. Though delicious, I felt my pork chop was just slightly over and on the drier side. The broccoli and potato hash was cold, but I’m not sure if that was by design. That was a minor critique and overall everything had great flavors and we will be back!! The beer and wine list were unique and all encompassing. My wife had the key lime cider and it was delicious… watch out for that one. Thank you to the server Georgia she was knowledgeable and personable. Thank you Chef Steve who deliver our food personally and came to congratulate us on our anniversary. If you are in Sarasota don’t miss out on Indigenous!!!!

    All drinks, apps and entrees were superb. Fresh and inventive! Top notch service and food. Will keep coming back!

    We had a fabulous evening at Indigenous! Such a welcoming environment with friendly and VERY food and wine savvy staff. The Tripletail and the pork chop were simply the best we’ve ever had. Chef Steve continues to deliver amazing culinary creations!

    Great little place a bit off the beaten path. Small menu but the options are unique and very tasty. Didn’t realized until we were seated but it’s beer and wine only. Not a problem though, as the offerings are diverse and very appropriate to the food options. Our server, Katie, was friendly and really great at explaining the different food preparations. She made the experience even more fun. We will definitely return.

    Our food and our service was exceptional. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. One of our favorite spots in Sarasota.
