Just steps off Ocean Avenue in downtown Carmel, California, Il Tegamino is Carmel's favorite hidden gem. Wander past Carmel's iconic candy shop to find us tucked behind boutiques in a courtyard off the beaten path. We are a tiny restaurant charmingly hidden in Carmel-by-the-Sea's first courtyard. Dine al fresco in our outdoor space within The Court of the Golden Bough courtyard complete with standing heaters and an awning or feel transported to an authentic Italian bistro in our bustling small dining room. We welcome you to come grab a glass of vino in our new wine room. As a local small business, you will often find owner Giuseppe at your table side to welcome you and serve his menu of Italian comfort food inspired by his upbringing in Southern Italy.

Il Tegamino was recommended to us by good friends. They were absolutely right - what a great place! Everything was delicious and the service was outstanding. We will definitely return to this quaint Italian restaurant.

The staff was wonderful. Very friendly and welcoming. Service was prompt and they gave me extra anchovies on my Cesar. A sure way to win me over! The issue for us was the food was pedestrian. The Branzino was a bit overdone and the sauce was nothing special. The Raviolini was also a little overcooked and was bland. The food was fine but nothing memorable. We probably won’t be back. Sorry.

The service was polite anticipatory and prompt. The canneloni...oh, wow! So many savory flavors wrapped up in that one big noodle...enough for two.

Absolutely outstanding! The best meal we’ve had in a long time. A hidden jewel in Carmel. Will be out #1 stop when staying in Monterey County going forward.

We really enjoyed our dinner at Il Tegamino. We sat outdoors under an awning and heat lamp and it was comfortable and cozy. The arugula/beet salad, zucchini dip, pasta with ragu and limoncello cake we ordered were all delicious. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is the awful $9 bread basket. It was nothing but a lot of slices of spongy white bread, some of which were stale. I would have been unhappy even if it were free. I don’t mind paying for bread service if the bread is good, but this was not good.

The menu has many interesting choices including vegetarian options. The food is outstanding in flavor and presentation. The staff are excellent.

After being seated by the hostess, it was several minutes before we were greeted by a server. She told us about the specials and left again without taking our drink order or offering any water. She returned several minutes later, took our drink order, and I requested water. She returned one last time and took our food order. We didn't see her again until it was time for our check. The food was amazing, but the service was slow and unattentive.

We had a reservation at 6:30pm, but had to stand around waiting for 20 minutes to be seated. Our server was clearly rushed and not as attentive as to what we are used to when dining here. Our food was delicious, as usual. But, the prices here are quite expensive and did not match the attention to detail one might expect. Perhaps because we were a table of 8, the already included gratuity on top of a $500+ bill felt exorbitant - "what service" was how we felt. We poured our own wine (we ordered a bottle) and had to ask for missing napkins and cutlery more than once. Additionally, we were told that we would have to leave soon as there was a 2 hour limit on how long we could be there - that's fine and all, however, you seated us 20 minutes late, service was slow, plus we had dessert. I hope this isn't the norm moving forward.
