Von der OpenTable-Redaktion: Wenn Sie im Willamette Valley eine Pinot-Verkostungstour machen, ist das Hayward im Mac Market Lagerhaus der perfekte Ort, um den Tag mit einem gelungenen Abendessen ausklingen zu lassen. Unter der Leitung von Chefkoch Kari Shaughnessy zerlegt das Team ganze Tiere, legt Gemüse ein, backt Sauerteig und stellt ein einfaches, aber ehrgeiziges Menü zusammen, das es zu einem Vorzeigebetrieb in der Region gemacht hat. Das Restaurant wurde 2024 sogar für den James Beard Award nominiert und hat damit die kulinarische Vielfalt von McMinnville ins Rampenlicht gerückt.


Philosophie

An enriching culinary experience, we set out to create delicious dinners while following a strict ethos on sourcing. We hold close relationships with all of our farmers and ranchers, making a uniquely personal menu. Dishes change weekly based on what is available on the farm and in the larder. While everything is sourced in a tight radius, the flavors are inspired by our travels and memories.

    January 22nd through February 1st—Dinner at Grandma’s House: Escape to a happier place where stuffed mushrooms, pozole dumplings, and seafood bisque are all just appetizers for Grandma's famous cookie plate. For parties of 6 or more, we require all guests to participate in our “Kickback”—our unconventional family-style tasting menu. Please inform us of any dietary restrictions, and we will do our best to accommodate them.

    This menu was insane! We loved it so much. Reading the menu you might not guess how the were going to represent breakfast but you take one bite and you’re instantly recognizing everything you love. This was a special themed menu for winter, so they don’t normally do breakfast. Knowing that made it even more impressive for the quality of it!

    What a great meal. From the very first dish, (just a sesame English muffin with koji butter, but astonishingly good,) to dessert, I was blown away. The Parisian gnocchi and the citrus salad were both out of this world. Chef’s Kari, Soren, Jon, and their kitchen team have outdone themselves with the very fun, limited-run Breakfast for Dinner Menu. Throw Dry January to the side for a night because the wine pairings were perfect. We drank our way through the glass pour options while we ate and the wines were delicious and fit seamlessly. Our server Lauren put the wine list together and clearly knows what she’s doing. I can’t wait for my next opportunity to eat at Hayward. Thank you to the whole team for creating such a great experience.

    Service was attentive with frequent check ins from multiple wait staff. It's a big open space (former warehouse or similar industrial building) which does make it a bit noisy and cold. I was disappointed in the food for the price ($150 for two people). I really enjoyed the sourdough waffles with fried miataki mushrooms. This dish was what I expected from the dinner for breakfast menu - a delicious twist on a classic dish. The oat porridge was close, but not quite there for me - the carrots were under cooked but I couldn't tell if it was a mistake or not as the dish would have benefited from a bit of crunch. The dish also needed a little bit of brightness to balance out the rich fattiness of the duck. The chicken fried steak was not good. The meat tasted boiled and lacked seasoning. The breading was too thick which made it kind of stodgy. The biscuit was overdone and dry. Overall, I would consider going back when they change their menu to see if the food is any better.

    We went for the 'Breakfast for Dinner' menu. Everything that we had was so creative and presented beautifully. We had a great time.

    The bartender was so great so we decided to sit at the bar for dinner. Her cocktails were tops and she was great to chat with. We did the “kick back” which let us taste several things from the menu. Everything was amazing!

    Although the menu is different every time (as it relies on seasonal produce and local providers), everything is consistently first rate. The food is delicious and innovative without ever being precious or pretentious. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual, with none of the "airs" or attitudes one sometimes encounters in high-end restaurants. The wine, beer, and cocktail menu is thoughtful and impressive; there are also excellent N/A options. My favorite local restaurant, and my first choice for visitors or special occasions. Highest recommendation.

    The best way to go to Hayward is with friends and/or family in abundance. Order everything on the menu and share it amongst yourselves (it's even a menu option). And get out there soon because the Nostalgia series fun won't last forever (we were there for Breakfast for Dinner). I could tell you my favorite this time, but you really should try as many of the dishes as you can because they are all just that tasty and showcase how good local, seasonal food can be...and don't forget the mocktails.

    I’m a bit biased as the crew at Hayward are my friends but genuinely they have worked so hard to make every aspect of your visit so inviting. Table service was excellent but not too pushy. The food was incredible and came out in decent time frames. If you order staggered or do the kickback (which I highly recommend) it never feels like you’re waiting around for things. You get to enjoy each item without feeling rushed to finish it so you can get to the next one. The dining room is nice, quiet but not too quiet you can still hear the hustle and bustle of the rest of the building which I think is charming to have such an incredible space in a community building like that. I think Hayward is the perfect spot if you like the idea of meals made with the seasons and like a bit of adventure to your meal.

    We had three for Kick Back and it was delicious, fun, and well-paced. The cocktail options matched the menu (our menu theme was Breakfast for Dinner) and we loved all the courses.
