    We are not often disappointed by our omakase dining experiences but this one sadly missed the mark for us. I mistakenly made an online Resy at a table instead of the counter so that definitely impacted our enjoyment. My error though. The staff was lovely. The physical space was small which is typical of omakase places, but this one needs a refresh. The few appetizers to start were beautifully plated. The fish itself was inconsistent. The sashimi course was served as a small plate of 6 pieces. This may have been a result of us being at our own table vs served piece by piece at the counter. However, the quality just underwhelmed. There was an abalone course that was just too chewy for my liking. Some of the pieces (eel and uni) were quite good. The sushi course was one note. There was a small bite of wagyu which was yummy. Dessert was a nice citrus panna cotta and they presented it to me for my birthday which was a lovely gesture. Having been to Japan recently and having enjoyed some amazing omakase in LA and NYC where I live, this OC strip mall establishment just didn’t measure up. At $250 pp it isn’t the most expensive we have had and maybe there are better ones around. For me, Sushi Note in LA was far superior and recently Coral Omakase in NYC was a true star. Perhaps Rebel is the one to try. Either way, I would recommend researching other places. If you go, be sure to get the counter here as it may make a big difference in experience.

    Great dinner experience over a whopping 2 to 2.5 hours with beautifully curated meals and flavors. Small and intimate environment with the chef in his element choosing to service his favorites to the guests. Flavors of each dish were loyal to the ingredients and no single dish overwhelms the next course. Pleasant, relaxing, and flavorful meal. A classic start and finish for this one Michelin star experience, and conveniently located in Orange County, CA. Was a deliciously fun experience.

    For omakase diners, this is a hidden gem that should be found more often…with the popularity of omakase dining today, where some restaurants can be repetitive in their offerings, Chef Atsushi explores combinations of ingredients to create unique flavors in the omakase realm…small, intimate and warm, we always feel welcome here…Hana Re is offers a quiet respite after a day of shopping at South Coast Plaza

    Gracious hosts with a true insight into modern Japanese cuisine. I would recommend Hana Re to anyone who wants to truly experience what Modern Japanese food is in Orange County

    Amazing omakase place. We had a 10 course dinner consisting of various dishes including meat, fish, and soup. The restaurant only seats 6-8 people which creates an extremely intimate and unique experience. The fish was very fresh, mostly flown from Japan and the upside for me of visiting this restaurant was trying Japanese dishes that I would never think to order and probably are not available at any regular sushi restaurant. It’s very clear why this place earned a Michelin star. Will be going back for certain.

    Have been here a handful of times and the experience has always been satisfying. Fresh ingredients crafted by a passionate cooking chef with great skill in preparing courses with balanced Eastern and Western influences.

    What an eclectic and unique omakase meal. The dishes were very much based on Japanese roots and I couldn’t have asked for a more in depth food tasting. The sushi, melts in your mouth. Some of the best I’ve ever had.
