Das Eating House 1849 ist eine Hommage an das lebhafte kulinarische Erbe Hawaiis sowie eine Anspielung auf Gastronomen wie Peter Fernandez, der der Geschichte nach eines der ersten Restaurants auf Hawaii eröffnete. Das so genannte Eating House hat Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts das genutzt, was von regionalen Bauern, Viehzüchtern, Jägern und Fischern zur Verfügung stand. Hier verbindet der preisgekrönte Küchenchef Roy Yamaguchi diese beiden Welten: die schlichte Atmosphäre und die einfachen Aromen einer Plantagenstadt mit der dynamischen Modernität der Haute Cuisine.

Sehr nettes Personal, Service sehr zuvorkommend. Fühlten uns rundum wohl. Wenn man draussen sitzen will, umbedingt bei Reservation vorgängig angeben.

So I used to love Eating House… but… I made a reservation far in advance and requested an outdoor table… when we were seated it was an indoor table right at the front door… I was then told I would have specially requested a PATIO table.. in the notes section of the app.. really??? The options were open air, bar or inside…She definitely made me feel it my MY error…So we were reseated about 20 minutes later on the patio… there were quite a few tables available but it could have been a shortage of wait staff… Living in Hawaii I’m used to high prices but seriously… two very small filets of Kampachi over risotto for $53??? Crazy. No sides .. oh.. three roasted cherry tomatoes. It tasted good but it was WAY overpriced. Our waitress was friendly and efficient . Cocktails were good. I don’t want to break up with this place.. I’ve raved about it… maybe an off night? But left kinda bummed. I rarely write a negative review but was sooo disappointed.. I think this was my fourth or fifth visit and may be my last… looking for the next great Waikiki dining experience…

This was our second time at a Roy’s 1849, the first one being in Kauai a few years ago. That Kauai experience was much better in all aspects. This Oahu location was average at best. The staff & service was excellent but, that didn’t compensate for the mediocre food. I had the Sunset Menu: The app included 3 items (good short rib but, mediocre pork bao bun & spring roll); the main (swordfish) was good with several preparation & sauce choices; the dessert panacotta was terrible (you don’t have to basically an afterthought). My wife’s spicy ahi tuna roll was horrible, with the (ahi?) tuna made into some sort of mousse which tasted like stale fish paste. We would it recommend this restaurant, even though the staff was wonderful.

This is by far my new favorite restaurant since Ive moved to the island. I keep coming back for the pineapple martini and their delicious food. Highly recommends!

Our party had a total of 6 different drinks, 4 appetizers, 6 entrees and the can't miss chocolate lava cake. All were delicious!

The food and service was seriously amazing. The only thing I didn’t love is walking through the very nice mall to get there (up the escalator from Target). Kind of had Westfield LA vibes.
