Overall, we were disappointed with our experience at Cardova. There were a couple of outstanding highlights, such as the she crab soup, branzino, and atmosphere, but they couldn't offset the negatives. After being seated, we noticed that for a dimly lit romantic environment, it was incredibly loud. This could be accounted to the historic design of the hotel/restaurant space. Our server was pleasant but didn't offer any highlights to the menu. She introduced herself and then asked if we knew what we wanted. I'd expect that out of a diner experience, but not a high-priced chop house. There wasn't any explanation of dishes, what the daily catch was, highlights to the menu, or recommendations. When we asked, she answered without elaboration. For example, when we asked about the daily catch; she responded with, "it's the red snapper." We had to pull it out of her how it was prepared, what vegetables were with the dish, and any pairings that might go with it. When it came to the food and drinks, it was hit or miss. Again, the she crab soup was great. The grilled octopus and pork belly did not pair well together. The sauce base, though good for the pork belly, did not go well with the octopus. That was also served cold after being grilled. The pomme frits seemed like the same frozen "fast food" fries I get from the grocery store with parmesan sprinkled on top. When it came to drinks, the signature old fashion and margarita were nothing special. Other minor gripes I had included having to pay extra for bread and butter, and our server never refilling our waters. All these things together lead to our less than stellar experience at Cardova.

We had a fantastic dinner. Marvin, our server, was excellent. Great food. Nice menu selection. It's a gem in St. Augustine.

We are locals and this was our 2nd recent experience at the revamped Cordova restaurant. Finally this restaurant does justice to the great venue that is the Casa Monica! Excellent food and service!! Very nice atmosphere and set-up. Cost is reasonable for the quality level. Highly recommend.

Reservations were at 11:30 am and TWO hrs later we still had no food. We had a show to attend at 2:00 and asked if the food would be coming out soon. The waiter never told us what the problem was but told us “no, I’m sorry it will not”… really sad!

This was the second time I visited this restaurant. Unfortunately this time was during Nights of Lights. We had drinks at the bar then dinner in the restaurant. I was not allowed to use the restrooms in the private areas of the restaurant. I had to stand in a 30 person line. The other people at my table had almost finished their dinners by the time I got back. This is unacceptable. The food was just okay. We’ve had better food at other restaurants. I don’t think I’ll visit this restaurant again.

Not enough staff, tables left all around not cleared, our waiter hardly came back to check on us, food didn’t have the ingredients portrayed in the menu, wine glasses dirty For such a beautiful atmosphere, service was sub par :/

We each ordered 2 appetizers, Shrimp Cocktails and Lobster Rolls. It was almost 1 1/2 hours before we got the lobster rolls. They were excellent but the shrimp cocktails were not. They came with just a drizzling of red sauce but, on request, we promptly received adequate sauce. Also, the shrimp were “watery” as if they had just been thawed out. Noise level was very loud but that was caused mainly by several extremely loud guests at a nearby table. I believe they had a private party that was at least a cause of the extensive delay and they probably weren’t staffed adequately to serve the individual diners.

The atmosphere was great and the food amazing. Service was stunningly slow. Seated ten minutes before 6:00 reservation. Ordered food that we didn’t see until 7:40. We had 8:30 reservations for the night of lights trolley so had to bolt down food to make it. Had to even ask when our food would be served. Stated they were short on staff. Such a shame as the food was so good it deserved to be savored.
