Commis in Oakland is a Two-Star Michelin rated fine dining restaurant by James Beard Foundation Nominated Chef James Syhabout that serves a multi-course Tasting Menu.

Diners at Commis are invited to linger for 2.5 to 3 hours over an multi-course meal in a warm, comfortable and relaxing dining room appointed by glowing glass light pendants, dark furniture, bare walnut tables, dim lit candles and floral arrangements.

Delivered by the attentive service staff and sommeliers, the cuisine of Commis showcases some of the best Northern California ingredients that are in season through modern and classic cooking techniques. The cuisine aims to bridge the flavors, textures and temperatures of the East and West with every course with the intention to excite and satisfy.

An optional global beverage pairing is available for $129 per person. A $100 per guest security deposit is collected upon booking the reservation. The deposit will be credited towards your final check after your experience at the restaurant. Pricing is exclusive of a 20% service charge. CANCELLATION POLICY *For cancellations, please call or email the restaurant at least 48 hours in advance and we will issue a full refund. The reservation cannot be changed, rescheduled or refunded within 2 days of your reservation date. Policy applies to COVID related cancellations.

Definitely my favorite restaurant in the Bay Area! The location is nice, parking is easy to find, and the service is wonderful. The food is always excellent and thoughtful and well presented. Always the go to restaurant for celebrations.

Everything was perfect, thought out and well executed. From the curated wine paring to the incredible detail to every dish. The food was amazing and the staff was accommodating, accommodating and friendly.

Food outstanding; but, even for a tasting menu, skimpy. Waiter and immediate staff were very attentive and warm. Ambiance of general staff was a little cold.

Dining at Commis is an experience--meant to be savored and enjoyed, slowly, admiring all the differences in taste and textures. We enjoyed ourselves immensely, asked many questions, and watched as the dishes were prepared and presented to us. Service was immaculate; even the utensils were unique and one of a kind. The owner came over to our table; we enjoyed talking about the art of food!

James and his team never fail to impress with wonderfully creative and delicious dishes that makes dinner at this favorite restaurant of ours always a special occasion.

It was the best Michelin experience ever. The food was just simply WOW and the wine pairings I have simply no words. I don’t think I have ever had better wine and sake. 2 stars are so so well deserved. Their wine director is amazing, talented and recruited the best wines/sake with the food. We will definitely be back: this one is for the books!

What an amazing experience! We went to celebrate a one year wedding anniversary and were blown away by everything from the moment we walked in the door. Food was fun, fresh and delicious. Wine paring and cocktails superb! And the service was outstanding!

Overall a pleasurable experience with top notch service, but the food was somewhat hit or miss. 3 of the 9 dishes were phenomenal, the others were fairly pedestrian. Just expected to be "wowed" throughout given the Michelin rating, price tag, and overall reputation, yet we left wanting more.
