We had a large party of 9 and the table held us comfortably. The food was great, the service was choppy. Forgetting things but running to go get the item, and no offer to refill drinks had to flag them down. It wasn’t super busy as there were open tables. The birthday singing was way too much for my liking but hey if you like 6 people with tambourines screaming happy birthday at the top of their lungs then this is your jam. I was charged for two extra fried rice ($15) but that was my bad for not double checking the bill, however in my defense I wanted to get out of there after three hours of being overstimulated and shouting to the people at my table anytime we wanted to converse. The cost of a basic (not top shelf) margarita was $18.50! I will say the food was really good. Our chef Javier was splendid. All in all, this is a special occasion meal, not a Friday night date night. There are many other downtown options (San Mateo, Redwood City, Palo Alto) to experience sushi, steak and cocktails that aren’t going to cost a fortune and your voice the next day.

Clumsy chef. Really hurt the vibe. Chef spilled food all over the place and dropped everyone’s food at least once while serving. Also dropped food was taken from the counter top and then placed on patrons plates. Dropped food in our sauces too. Chef had a bad night. Food was not prepared timely. Lots of cold bites. Better luck next time Chef. We’re rooting for you!

Not a great experience, we will not return. Go to a different location. We had a reservation at 7:45, we were not seated until 8:30, 45 mins after our reservation. Servers were overwhelmed with the amount of tables they had, ours was super nice but very busy. The chef wasn’t great. Unfortunately, it’s the worst Benihana food I’ve had.

Decided to try the Bridgepoint shopping center location in San Mateo/Foster City area. I made a reservation and we still had to wait 20 min before we got seated. It took us 1 hour from when we arrived, got seated, and had our first drink. Then another hour to finish all of our meals. We were sat in the back and the chef was having problems with the grill and assuming temperature where other co-workers had to help him fix it. Overall our chef was very kind, but I was expecting more of a show and interaction with customers. We brought our kids thinking they will love the energetic show and it was a bit disappointing. I also had a birthday coupon that I wanted to redeem and apparently you can only redeem it Mon-Thurs. Overall, I could have saved $100 off my total bill and went to Suishi and had better food, better price, and home sooner. A family of 4 will run you close to $300 including tip.

Everything was delicious unfortunately it seems like things are more overpriced especially with their delicious chicken fried rice. Plus, I was not happy with the promotions they had they did and not specify it could be only in the bar area ( there course meal for $39 5 course) But we had a great server. Food was fantastic and our chef was amazing. I am very excited to have a Benihana closer to our home :)

Great experience love the new Benihana and San Mateo. The food is exactly the same as all the other Benihana’s great service delicious food nice atmosphere would definitely go back again. I recommend it to everybody a little bit on the expensive side, but worth every penny.❤️

Your chef is new is very slow cook. The helper didn’t clean our dishes and didn’t refill our drinks.They did give the birthday cakes to my daughter and her husband.They didn’t take the picture of us. They didn’t thank us

The food was delicious and the service at the table was great. The only downside was, we had reservations for 5:45 pm and we were not seated till 6:25.

It was my birthday, the hostess were great, but when we got sat the chef did not give the fldinning experience we usually get, the chef did not speak English so he only talked with the other family that spoke his language, he only did 2 fun things, our food took so long because he only cooked 1 thing at a time so when our food was done most of it was cold.... it was my 7 year olds first time and he almost fell asleep and the cook also forgot his order so he didn't eat. The manager needed up taking my son's meal off the bill. It was sad because it was my 40th birthday and I was super disappointed since we paid a $245.00 bill and tilled a undeserved $50, the chef did say sorry for missing my kids food.
