Bamboo-Mat is a Peruvian-Japanese fusion restaurant based in Leyton serving fresh sushi, nikkei sharing plates and cocktails. Run by chef Victor Rosca formerly of Sushisamba,Roka and Lucky Cat by Gordon Ramsay and his business partner Denis Gobjila ex of Chotto Matte. Bamboo Mat brings together their combined years of experience with a fresh perspective on Nikkei cuisine. This was my first visit to Bamboo Mat. Despite its unassuming facade the experience was 5 star. The food was really good, the waiter was a delight and the place was full of customers (on a Tuesday night). I would definitely recommend and will be going back for sure.

This was my second time with Bamboo Mat so visited again as some of my friends had not been there. Very interesting food and choices for both gluten free and shell fish allergies. Also delicious cocktails at a reasonable price. The waiter was very helpful and patient as we made our selections with food delicious. A lovely little restaurant with speedy and friendly service.

Valentine's date spoilt when we were told we only had an hour on the table and we were already over that by 10 minutes. This wasn't a condition at the time of booking. It was because the restaurant was busy and they were turning people away. I hadn't even finished my wine! The bill was then put on the table without us asking for it. Felt pretty unwelcome to be honest. Shame really as the food was excellent as always.

The food, drinks and service exceeded all expectations. The best meal I’ve had in years! It was reasonably priced as well.

Found this as a last minute reservation for my birthday get together with family. Amazing! I have zero negative comments to make. Very friendly and talented staff.

Wow. A succession of 'nikkei' tastes and flavours completely new to us. Beautifully presented, vibrant and piquant food, fully explained by the enthusiastic and engaging staff. Pleasant room with lively, unobtrusive background music (the positive review by Grace Dent referred to the room being 'bare' - that must have been some while ago). We both opted for the £48 tasting menu, which brings our only comment: all dishes were served on single plates for two of us to share, which suggests portions for a single person having the tasting menu would be small. The dessert in particular - we'd reasonably expected a portion each, not half of one. That didn't detract from our enjoyment overall, though, and we'll definitely be back.

Super welcoming, we went early and it was quiet; an hour in and all tables were taken.Attentive service, food was excellent, the quality of ingredients particularly the sushi is excellent. We are so lucky to have this in our neighbourhood! Cocktails also great.
