Opening their first location in the spring of 1984, Helen Babalos & Thomas Makris brought us Anatoli Souvlaki. They had a dream of combining the food of Greece with great service to add some Mediterranean style to the North Vancouver restaurant selection. They opened in the sleepy neighbourhood of lower Lonsdale and lived above the restaurant to ensure the quality and service. They were able to create a North Vancouver staple, a successful thriving restaurant based on faithful patrons and a reputation that has been passed through generations.In 2011, the family-run restaurant was taken over by their sons Alexi and Iani. In 2015, the brothers, alongside their cousin Daniel Bergman, expanded on their parent’s dream by opening The Greek in Yaletown, with a focus on mezze-style dining. Now open in Gastown. The Greek is a reinterpretation of the North Shore's iconic Anatoli Souvlaki.

Thomas Makris, der auf der Insel Skopelos geboren wurde, verliebte sich einst in Helen Babalos. Schon bald nach ihrer Heirat hatten sie die Idee, in Vancouver ein einzigartiges Lokal zu eröffnen: ein griechisches Restaurant, in dem jeder Teil einer großen Familie ist, in dem jeder köstliche, hausgemachte, authentische Speisen bei aufmerksamem Service genießen kann. Sie eröffneten 1984 das Anatoli Souvlaki im Norden von Vancouver. Im Jahr 2011 übernahmen ihre Söhne Alexi und Iani das Restaurant. Diese verwirklichten Anfang 2015 den ursprünglichen Traum ihrer Eltern in einem neuen Projekt. Had beet salad, yaya salad, lamb chops, seared sockeye salmon, branzino and bougatsa. The best Greek food in town. And they have great cocktails, we had the Aphrodite and spicy margaritas. Loved them both. Thank you chef Manos & staff for a delicious meal🙏

First time and really impressed by the place. Food was delicious, definitely you have to share and I recommend the classic chicken souvlaki, love it ! Wine selection is great. Need to come back to try cocktails. Great service.

Great food quality and service. Definitely more of a casual place. The only issue I have is the wine seemed to be priced extremely high for the excellent value of the food. I had a cocktail instead which was excellent and priced appropriately.
