LaSalle Grill, a modern American Bistro featuring steaks and chops and seafood cooked over a live hardwood fire, is born of the dream of experienced restaurateur Mark McDonnell. Like the restaurant’s namesake, noted French explorer, Robert de LaSalle, McDonnell set out to explore the uncharted waters of downtown South Bend, Indiana. LaSalle Catering is the off-premise catering arm of LaSalle Grill. LaSalle Catering specializes in all sizes of catered events in a 60 mile radius of South Bend, Indiana. We are particularly adept in executing difficult events in unusual locations. As founder Mark McDonnell likes to say, "difficult is not impossible". It's the little details that count. For the last decade I have rated the LaSalle Grill as South Bend's top restaurant. But last night was a disaster. My wife and I made reservations in response to its announcement of a special prime rib weekend. We made reservations for 7:00, arrived on time, and ordered the prime rib, only to be told that, because of a high number of walk-in guests, they were out of prime rib. Other than lame apologies, we were offered nothing to mitigate the disaster. So, we left. We may or may not return in the future. We were more disappointed by the management's response to the situation than the fact that they had not anticipated the response to their prime rib special.
