The Michelin Starred, Fordwich Arms, located in the smallest town in England, dates as far back as 1828. Draped in ivory and wisteria in the most picturesque location over looking the Great River Stour, the perfect setting for an idyllic summers lunch. Daniel and Natasha Smith took over The Fordwich Arms in 2017 and were awarded a Michelin Star within the first year, as well as being in the top 100 gastro pubs in the UK, multiple culinary awards, notable wine awards and various other accredits, a testament to their hair work and talent. The seasonal menus focus on provenance, showcasing the best of local Kentish ingredients, sourced directly from local farms and producers. Our magical conservatory restaurant is set amid Updown’s rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven. The restaurant has been completely transformed by owners Ruth and Oli to be heated and fully enclosed and is open year round.Menus will be small, hyper seasonal and use the best of local and European produce and change on regular basis to reflect what’s best. Everything is cooked over wood in the open kitchen. There is a short list of exciting wines of limited availability, local beers and seasonal cocktails.On Wednesday nights in place of our à la carte we cook a Steak Night menu , priced at £30 per person for 3 courses. On Sunday nights the restaurant is closed but we serve a light supper for hotel guests in the Farmhouse.

Had a lovely set menu lunch for my daughter’s 21 st birthday. We all loved especially the touch of a free birthday pudding . Staff Lovely and very friendly and attentive.

Staff were very friendly and lovely. The food took a very very long time to arrive - there were only a few tables in the restaurant as a Monday morning. We had no starters just main and dessert and we were there from 1.30-4.30. We were happy to chat but strange how long it took. Food was very good and we enjoyed it. Staff kindly did a birthday Happy Birthday plate for our friend. Of course as with all restaurants now it felt expensive. 3 people and with voluntary tip was £180 (this included one glass of wine and 5 pints) With these kind of prices expectations are high. It was good but not exceptional as price would suggest.
