Located in the Corktown neighborhood of Detroit, TAKOI is known for modern Thai cooking accented with Michigan seasonality, a DIY mentality, and a penchant for local food production. As a core pillar of our mission, TAKOI operates HiO Farm which is located just a mile north of the restaurant. During the height of farm season, the restaurant highlights dishes prepared with HiO produce utilizing the techniques and flavors inspired by Thailand and beyond. TAKOI, originally KATOI, began as a food truck in 2014, evolved into an Ann Arbor pop-up, and landed as a proper restaurant at 2520 Michigan Avenue in March of 2016. After being open for 11 months, having a slew of fun, and garnering a handful of awards — including a James Beard 'Best New Restaurant' nomination— KATOI was brought back down to earth when it was subjected to arson in February 2017. The day after the fire, the rebuild began, and we opened as TAKOI exactly six months later in August 2017.

The Huma Room on the second floor features half of a black 1973 Cadillac Fleetwood mounted behind the wall and an outdoor patio.     We had a wonderful dinner at Selden Standard. Ahsley our waitress was very attentive as were the servers who brought out each dish. Explaining what each one was and confirming that there was none of the allergy items I had mention. The food was delicious and I loved the small plates so that we could try everything. Will definitley be back.

    Christmas day dining at Tria. First time dining experience there for us. First off, the food was excellent! I had the apple muffin encrusted whitefish which was recommended by our server, Paul, and it was delicious! My wife had the filet mignon, and she said it was tender, tasty and cooked to perfection. The other two in our party also enjoyed their food. One had the whitefish and the other had the pork chop. Both said they were excellent. Our server, Paul, on the other hand seemed to be a little resentful to be working on Christmas. He was, at times, curt with us, which made our experience uncomfortable. As we were finishing up around 8:30pm, the staff started setting up all the tables in the restaurant for breakfast the following morning. It reminded me of a mess hall with the clanging of coffee cups and flatware being placed on the granite top tables. I understand that the staff wanted to go home but it really was somewhat uncouth for a $75-$100 a plate restaurant. We will probably not return. I'm not complaining about the price as we dine in that price range fairly often, but just for reference for two, our bill with tip was $216.00 and there were only two alcohol beverages on it, in case you might be thinking that the bill included a bunch of drinks.

    Our server was fabulous! She was very friendly and professional. Our food came out piping hot. She checked on us frequently. Our food was delicious. We all had the salmon. The only downfall of the whole experience was that we were sat in the bar section and the music was so loud we couldn’t hear each other. I asked for it to be turned down, and the manager came out and did turn it down. However, after about 15 min it was back up again.

    In a city that is developing a nationwide reputation for creative cuisine, Takoi remains a benchmark. We used this dinner to introduce four friends — all with significant “foodie” bona fides — to Takoi and they were all blown away. The theme is dominantly Thai. I am cautious about introducing the word, “fusion,” because it has been so bastardized. But Takoi revives the original meaning, staying true to its roots while adding distinctive new flavor tones and textures that can take you by surprise. From start to finish, each dish seemed to outdo the prior one, from the carrots to the noodles to the sea bream. Add wonderful service and Takoi remains a delight everyone needs to experience.
