Chef and owner Joel Gilbert decided after years of searching for the perfect location that he was going to begin his journey with his first brick and mortar restaurant on the most Northern Point of Forest Lake, in Lake Zurich Illinois. After years of working and running restaurant establishments and working with his company Butter & biscuit Co. at local farmers markets, Joel has established great friendships and partnerships with some of the best local farmers. Joel took this opportunity to use the best seasonal products for his Italian inspired cuisine. The pizzas were absolutely delicious. We loved the pesto prosciutto goat cheese specialty pizza. Artichoke dip appetizer with red peppers was not a traditional artichoke dip recipe--overloaded with red peppers would not try that again. We definitely will return. Great vibe and lively.

As always the food and service was great. The reservation system needs work. We made a reservation for 6:30 and had to wait until after 7 p.m. to be seated.

Our second time eating at a CH and I’m so impressed. It has a huge menu which is often a problem but not here - everything we’ve had (in two different places) has been great and both time we had 6 people. I wish they’d continue expanding west into San Diego!!! It would be an instant hit.

We had Christmas lunch here, so it was pretty quiet and the staff weren’t so busy. With that in mind, service was friendly, prompt and attentive. The food was excellent: pot stickers for starters, then mutton stir fry, beef fried rice and Singapore noodles. Mutton is unusual in Chicagoland but it was surprisingly good. PL8 is now in our top 2 Chinese restaurants in the NW burns.
