The Punchbowl is a 17th century gastro pub, located in the heart of rural Essex and the Crouch Valley and the South Essex Salt marshes. This was my first but not last visit. It was Nutcracker themed afternoon tea. All tables were in themed booths, the deco was outstanding (says the art student) and gave a really great feel. Food was plentiful and really imaginative (think pigs in blanket hot dog in brioche canapé) and good quality. Music obvs was Nutcracker (think Dad would’ve ben disappointed not ELP) and loads of Xmas favs. Just a truly brilliant experience

Lovely little restaurant hidden away in Southend. We ordered the speciality of half a pineapple with sticky rice and topped with pork. Delicious. Also the prawn skewers, tacos and edamame. We ate at 6pm so it was v quiet in there although I’m sure later on it gets busier. Beautiful decor and friendly service. We’ll be back!
