Das Not Your Average Joe's ist nicht nur ein weiteres Restaurant. Es gab keinen Mangel an Restaurants, als es 1994 zum ersten Mal seine Türen öffnete. Es gab jedoch einen Mangel an guten Restaurants mit günstigen Preisen in den Vororten. Steve Silverstein war es leid, weit zu fahren und zu viel bezahlen, und entschied sich, das Restaurant zu eröffnen, das seinen Vorstellungen entsprach. Der Name Not Your Average Joe's entsprang Steves Entschlossenheit, ein 08/15-Restaurant zu vermeiden.
