Thomas Makris, der auf der Insel Skopelos geboren wurde, verliebte sich einst in Helen Babalos. Schon bald nach ihrer Heirat hatten sie die Idee, in Vancouver ein einzigartiges Lokal zu eröffnen: ein griechisches Restaurant, in dem jeder Teil einer großen Familie ist, in dem jeder köstliche, hausgemachte, authentische Speisen bei aufmerksamem Service genießen kann. Sie eröffneten 1984 das Anatoli Souvlaki im Norden von Vancouver. Im Jahr 2011 übernahmen ihre Söhne Alexi und Iani das Restaurant. Diese verwirklichten Anfang 2015 den ursprünglichen Traum ihrer Eltern in einem neuen Projekt. Zusammen mit ihrem Cousin Daniel Bergman eröffneten Alexi und Iani das Restaurant „The Greek by Anatoli“ in Yaletown. Opening their first location in the spring of 1984, Helen Babalos & Thomas Makris brought us Anatoli Souvlaki. They had a dream of combining the food of Greece with great service to add some Mediterranean style to the North Vancouver restaurant selection. They opened in the sleepy neighbourhood of lower Lonsdale and lived above the restaurant to ensure the quality and service. They were able to create a North Vancouver staple, a successful thriving restaurant based on faithful patrons and a reputation that has been passed through generations.In 2011, the family-run restaurant was taken over by their sons Alexi and Iani. In 2015, the brothers, alongside their cousin Daniel Bergman, expanded on their parent’s dream by opening The Greek in Yaletown, with a focus on mezze-style dining. Now open in Gastown. The Greek is a reinterpretation of the North Shore's iconic Anatoli Souvlaki.

Very nice restaurant. The hummus is a must try as well as the mussels. There were two of us and three sharing plates would have been plenty but we had more and were full by the entree. The service was good and the atmosphere was lively. Would recommend and will be back.

The waitress was impatient when we still need time to order. The manager was nice and helpful, giving us suggestions on the choices. The oyster was fine and fresh. The octopus was great! The salmon was very soft.
