Our opening date is 2nd December 2024, we cant wait to show this wonderfully redesigned Axe and Compasses to the village of Braughing. Our aim is to be the central hub of the community, and we are looking forward in welcoming guests back. The Axe and Compasses is a traditional British village pub dating back to 1628, serving a wide and varied selection of quality lagers, cask conditioned ales, fine wines, and premium spirits. We cater for parties from 1 to 200 guests and have menus for every occasion.The main bar is the hub of the pub and in the cooler months is a lovely spot for drinks and casual dining, there are two wood burning stoves either end to keep you all snug.The dining room is spacious and airy with a pitched roof with three fabulous pink chandeliers. There are three semi private spaces all with banquette seating and very versatile so can be used for standing canapé drinks parties or intimate semi private dining. The dining room is also available for private hire.

Now currently under new management and direction!In our cosy bar we have retained the buildings original features and given it a fresh contemporary edge where we welcome both drinkers and diners alike and our tables are available on a ‘first come’ basis offering an extensive range of dishes from salads, sharing planks to wholesome pub classics.Our 70 seat a la carte restaurant to the rear of the property is also not to be missed, with crisp white linen, delicious food and an extensive wine list making it the ideal place for lunch, dinner or any other special occasions. We had an excellent lunch. The Christmas pie which 3 of us had was delicious with plenty of turkey, stuffing and sausage. Additional vegetables of Broccoli stems, carrot and cauliflower were plentiful and the gravy was tasty too. Excellent service from our waiter and we look forward to another visit soon.

Great lunch with a friend. Excellent food and food service though slightly disappointed you had to pre book a festive lunch. Will know better next time!
