Cafe Cariccio, the region's only authentic Tuscan restaurant, has been a favorite dining destination in Albany for 30 years. The Cafe was voted Best Restaurant in the Capital District by Metroland Magazine for 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, and many times previously. Jim Rua and Franco Rua are proprietors. Our rooms regularly host business events and speaker presentations as well as family event, birthdays, anniversaries as well as couples dinners with friends.

    Great find in Albany. Food was delicious, service was friendly and helpful with menu options and suggestions. Great family restaurant with authentic Italian specialties.

    Our servers Sophia and Cam were lovely, helpful, and informative. The striped bass special was delicious, a generous piece of fish, and the saffron risotto that came with it was quite nice. My daughter was delighted with the calamari neri dish. Thank you for a great Sunday dinner before kids go back to school!!

    I had heard so many great things about this restaurant from out-of-town visitors, so I was eager to experience it for myself. Unfortunately, my visit did not live up to the high expectations that had been set. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere lacked professionalism. The staff seemed untrained, with little to no restaurant or hosting etiquette. Throughout my visit, I noticed excessive noise, unprofessional behavior, and an alarming amount of swearing—something I wouldn’t expect at a restaurant of this caliber, especially given the premium price point. Hoping the food would make up for the experience, I ordered a steak and the octopus. While the octopus was delicious, the steak was rather basic. We also tried the cured meat, which was overwhelmingly salty, and my colleague’s pasta had a watery sauce. Overall, the dishes felt rushed and lacked refinement. That said, I can appreciate the restaurant’s aesthetic and history, but I believe the service team would benefit from further training in hospitality and etiquette. Given my experience, I wouldn’t be in a hurry to return. However, I still left a generous tip because that’s simply the right thing to do. Rating: 3/5

    Food was very good. A little disappointed they didn’t allow you to order something not on the menu (chicken parm, not exactly a complicated dish) but the item I ordered was delicious. I have dined there before and food has been good each time. Keep your eyes open as top level political types frequent the place.

    Food is very good- one waitstaff person is a bit officious and abrasive for my taste. She gives the impression of being very transactional and impatient. The waitstaff seem to trade in and out? It’s my only complaint- I want to go back, but not if she will be my server. Second time.
